Hi! I'm from Troop 535 of High Ridge, Mo. I'm 17 years old, and a sophmore at Northwest High School, and becoming a Eagle Scout is my current goal.
Here is the story board of how I carried out my Eagle Project.
I wanted to do something that would benifit the community in a big way. I was watching a news cast, and seen a story about the West Nile Virus. How it was inpacting the birds and humans. It also spoke of the Wild Bird Santuary in Valley Park, and how they also had lost many birds to the virus.
Research 1/9/03 My dad and I visited the santuary, and spoke with Mr. Crawford, the director, and he said he could use some bat houses around bird cages. I have chosen for my Eagle Project, to build (7) bat houses, (3) nursury, and (4) nesting. In an effort to fight the West Nile Virus !!!! Bats love these critters ! Returning home, I searched the Internet for plans on some bat boxes, and found what I needed. I returned to the santuary, and met with Mr. Crawford, and reviewed the plans with him. He aproved, and signed my approval sheet, January 10,2003. Approvals 1/10/03 1/13/03 On January 13,2003, I met with my Scoutmaster, and explained to him what my project was, and if it met with his approval. He thought it was a great idea for a project, and gave me some hints on what to do next. We reviewed the project workbook, and he answered all my questions. NOTE: You need to have all your documents in order for presentation. I submit my Eagle Scout Rank Application and statement about myself and my Leadership Service Project Workbook to the local council. I then requested a Eagle Project, board of review at the next roundtable, and presented my project. With a lot of encouragement from the board, they approved my project. Getting Ready for Work Day I generated my request sheets for materials, and proceeded to visit several stores for donations towards the project. I then asked for help from other boy scouts, to assemble, paint, and install these bat boxes. I explained in detail, and had handouts for everyone at the meeting. Then we visited the store, and picked up the supplies. The adult leaders got together, and pre-cut the wood for assembly day. Work Day We all got together in my dad's garage, and went to work. Now it came time to give the bats a new home. we planed a day at the santuary to install the bat houses. Completing the Forms It is really important to complete all the forms required for the project. Keep track of all hours invested in the project, including adults!

Final Board of Review After installing all the bat houses, the project was complete, I then sat down with Mr. Crawford from the santuary, and he gave me his signature on my form. Returning home, I sat down with mom & dad, and reviewed my next steps. With all the forms completed, I then submited the project (plan and final report) along with my completed Eagle Scout application to the Council Advancement Committee. When it was approved, I requested my "Final Board of Review", and took all my displays, and pictures. The Board enjoyed my presentation, thanked my for a job well done, and signed the forms. I then sent the form required to National Council for final approaval. It was returned in 12 days, with APPROVAL!!! Celebration On August 17, 2003, my 'Eagle Court of Honor' was held. This will be a day that I will never forget. All the hard work it takes to achieve the rank of Eagle is worth it.
